It is crafted to diminish perceived recoil and prevent the buffer spring from friction with the inner wall of the buffer tube. The buffer mass is engineered to maintain consistent tension against the bolt carrier, and the O-ring on the buffer mass's head acts as a barrier, averting metal-to-metal contact.
